The Importance of Choosing your Esthetician

Some people want a facial for the relaxation and experience and consider it a treat. Most are looking for results and want to see positive changes in their skin.

Unlike the instant gratification of seeing your hair transformed by a color and cut or getting your nails done, Skin Care requires patient and commitment, and that is where becoming a team with your Esthetician comes in.

Sometimes it is possible to give a client an instant glow (HydraFacial anyone?) but for long term changes and more challenging skin issues like severe acne or hyperpigmentation, your trust and investment is required in order to see your skin improve.

What to look for when choosing your Esthetician?

-Confidence

First of all, you need to feel comfortable with her or his customer service and demeanor and know you can trust her. I am always upfront with my clients about having realistic expectations about what we can really accomplish, and pricing for all my products and treatments are always available. No surprises there! But trust goes beyond discussing goals. Do you feel comfortable with her? Do you feel you can trust their expertise? Were your questions answered in a manner that made sense to you? Never be afraid to be thorough when trying to figure out if you are a match.

-Expertise

Learning skin goes way beyond beauty school for us beauty professional, so you need to make sure your Esthetician has the proper licensing and certifications. Find out he or she has been practicing skin care for a while, especially if you will be getting advanced treatments like microdermabrasion and peels.

-Reliability

Most of my business comes from word of mouth and yelp reviews, so make sure your Esthetician also comes with reliable recommendations.

-Ease of Communication

Clarity is very important! Make sure you are both transparent and establish expectations early on. I let my clients know that I am always open to discuss when a product might not be working for them, or if they feel a treatment might not be the right one for them. Although we are the professionals and we are here to guide you, your input is always important and your concerns should never be brushed off.

Once all this has been established, congratulations! you are ready to embark on your skin care journey.

Your skin is the largest organ in your body, so you need to do your due diligence researching who you will put your trust in.
